About us

History

Lighthouse Baptist Church was founded in October, 2001, by the Rev. Don Griffith, from South Carolina. Don, along with his wife Rita and their daughter Bettie began holding services with a small group of fellow-Christians in the Abergele Youth & Community Centre. Their desire was to establish a church that would preach the gospel and put the focus on Bible teaching. Don remained as the pastor for three and a half years, before returning to the States with his family in the Spring of 2005, due to poor health.

Pastor

Joe Nicholson came to Lighthouse Baptist Church in April, 2006, to fill the role of pastor. His desire is to see people's lives changed through the power of God's Word. Joe and his wife Abbie have five children.

Our Vision

We believe that Christ is the Head of the Church, the members of which are His body, purchased by His own blood and designed for the purpose of showing God's glory in the world and making disciples of Jesus Christ from all nations.

Therefore, we are committed to: the centrality of the Bible, the Word of God, as our authority in every aspect of life and ministry; the building up of believers (the members of Christ's body) in love that they might attain the maturity of Christlikeness; the spread of the gospel, which is the good news of Christ's kingdom; submission to qualified leaders within the local church, which are Christ's under shepherds; mutual submission and commitment to other believers in the context of a local church.

The Gospel

  • The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and then was raised from the dead after three days.
  • The Bible teaches that there is a loving, holy, and all-powerful God who made all things in order to display His own glory. Since God made all things, He owns all things, and He placed man on the earth to serve Him by looking after His creation.
  • However, the human race is in rebellion against God. Although God has revealed Himself to mankind through the wonders of His creation and the words of His book, the Bible, from the very beginning we have turned away from God and sought to live life our own way.
  • Because God is holy (completely without sin), He cannot and will not tolerate sin and therefore must judge it. As a result, mankind is rightly under the judgment of God.
  • The good news is that God Himself has provided a solution to this problem. God sent His own Son, Jesus, to become a man and provide a way for man to escape God's judgment on sin. Jesus, the God-man, lived a life in which He perfectly fulfilled the demands of God's law. He then gave His life in death on the cross, in order to suffer the penalty for sin, so that all who repent of their sins and put their trust in Jesus and their Lord and Saviour, will be delivered from God's judgment.
